Corrugated Cardboard Removal Policy

The purpose of the Acadia Disposal District (ADD) “is to provide for the cost-effective, environmentally friendly, efficient and lawful management, disposal and recycling of waste materials”. In keeping with this purpose, the Board of Directors of the ADD voted at their regular meeting held on October 7, 2004 , to institute a policy removing corrugated cardboard from the waste stream of the member towns.

This policy will be effective starting on January 3, 2005 , allowing sufficient time to properly inform the general public, transfer facilities and, the solid waste haulers of the changes that the policy will require.

The new policy will reduce the tonnage of waste that is taken to both EMR and PERC, thereby reducing the tipping fees. The policy will also increase the recycle rate for the towns. It is anticipated that revenue from the sale of recycled cardboard will further reduce the overall cost of the disposal of solid waste from the member towns.
